I always liked your videos, but this time in my opinion you are doing it wrong! Why send a stereo instrument like drums to a chamber reverb that is set to mono? You get phasing which is clearly audible and not a consistent drum reverb sound.

Glow is absolutely brilliant reverb and is actually better than the UA RMX16 which I also own. I'm so glad that Glow exists because my UA Satellite Quad thunderbolt just died on me a few weeks ago. There is no way I'd be investing in UA's outdated DSP chips in 2024. Thank God for companies like wave alchemy who can rival Universal Audio at a fraction of the price and also for Apple for developing Apple Silicon Chips which are so powerful thus making external DSP chips unnecessary in most use cases.

From what I can tell, soundgym is not what I was hoping for. Software like this (eg Syntorial as well) has a flaw of being focused on reverse engineering sounds. If you’re trying to copy what someone else did from a reference track, this is a useful skill, but if you’re trying to CREATE something and it’s not coming out how you want, it doesn’t really teach you how to fix sound problems - ie, how to mix well. Does being able to hear EQ, compression, or reverb help you determine if a mix needs those things or how much? (It certainly doesn’t hurt, I suppose) Let me caveat that I think soundgym is just advertising “ear training”, so I’m not saying it doesn’t do what’s advertised. I am saying it appears that it wouldn’t be that useful as a tool to improving one’s ability to mix well. Perhaps I’m wrong.

Hi, How can I enter chords into the scaler from my midi keyboard? I don't want to load them from the lists, I just want to play them by ear on midi keyboard. Please help. I know that I can turn on recording in the scaler, and play chords in my daw, but I prefer to put them from the keyboard, not from my daw. Is there such a possibility?

This kind of websites are just to hear cool stories in the music industry, but not to learn how to mix or face any problem

it's stated that all the documentation is inside the plugin itself - it always has some description appearing at the bottom. And then, on their website, they have a lot of "learn" articles that not only teach you tips and tricks, but also have articles literally named "valhalla xxx : what is it and what it does " . The combination of both give you the most detailed documentation and tips and tricks that ,you could possibly find in the majority of other plugins, in my humble opinion. Everytime they add new algorithms they also go very deep into describing them, their uniqueness and why were they added and what you can achieve with them

I'd love to get SplitEQ - I have so many eqs that I'm not sure I can justify it yet... Here are my 2 cents: Claro is super cool, I use Ableton and Claro's mixing part messes up a bit with the names, kinda confusing and it lacks dynamic eq - sure they'll add it for v2 and charge you. Sonible SmartEQ4 - or 3, back in the day when this vid was made- is on another level, I only got the Claro because it was discounted at 20 bucks, but SmartEQ4 is the only one that is keeping me away from pro q or kirchhoff. Can't speak for SplitEQ, but transient EQing seems on another level; although SmartEQ has an adaptive function, which isn't the same. Claro is cool, only get it discounted, for retail price SmartEQ 4 is cheaper and better. The other one that I've yet to try is the DMG EQ, someday...

I couldn't hear a difference between any of them. I do have high frequency hearing damage, but dang... thought i'd hear some difference.

Really good explanation, even better than the creator of scaler and to be honest they would have a lot more customer if they explain it as good as you did here. The potential for orchestral and gaming score is there but we don't know how to use it correctly.

I found exactly the same with 990s. Lovely for listening to music, but I couldn't mix with them. They're not neutral. I've had far more success with 770s and 880s for mixing. From you review I might replace my broken 990s with those 900s

After having had several Sennheiser headphones with my first one being the famous HD 414 (long ago) I got tired of the Sennheisers because their cables often break, especially the tiny plugs are awful. In the end I came down to the point to say they sound dull somehow and I wanted to purchase a neutral and clean sounding headphone of another brand. Two years after intensive studies and comparison of technical features ago I bought a Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X and was stunned regarding the super clear sound even revealing the growling of deep bass response in HighRes records and old songs of mine that I had missed with any other headphone I had used. They are a joy on the ear and you can wear them for 6 hours in a row without taking them off. Perfect for the use in long studio sessions. I would certainly recommend to test these for your mixing sessions if you cannot use a speaker system, for example during night hours. On the other hand I am convinced that for mixing and mastering a decent set of loudspeakers (with subwoofer) should be applied. I would not work with headphones all the time. It may still lead you to wrong decision-making. But in general, these DT900 ProX will not disappoint you. (/from Germany)

USB ... one speaker at a time ... how does that work on 2 channel music? Genelec 8343 provide ethernet connections and you can manage both at the same time. Thanks for the review ... still undecided between Genelec and Adam.
